These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the interpreting and translation booking platform ("Platform") operated by Karieng Language Service ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. About Our Services

Karieng Language Service provides professional interpreting and translation services, including:

On-site interpreting — an interpreter attends a location in person
Telephone interpreting — interpreting conducted over the phone
Document translation — written translation of documents between languages

Our Platform connects customers who require language services with qualified, vetted interpreters and translators.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age and have the legal authority to enter into a binding agreement to use our Platform. If you are booking on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

3. Bookings and Service Requests

3.1 Submitting a Request

When you submit a service request, you provide details such as the date, time, location, language required, and any special instructions. You are responsible for ensuring the information provided is accurate and complete.

3.2 Quotations and Pricing

After you submit a request, we will provide a quotation based on the details you have given. Pricing depends on the type of service, language, duration, and location. A service will not proceed until you have accepted the quotation.

3.3 Cancellations

You may cancel or modify a booking before it has been confirmed and an interpreter assigned. For confirmed bookings, we require at least 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations may incur a cancellation fee as outlined in your quotation.

4. Interpreter Conduct

All interpreters on our Platform are qualified professionals. They are bound by their own codes of conduct and confidentiality obligations. We make reasonable efforts to match you with a suitable interpreter, but we do not guarantee the availability of a specific individual.

5. Payment

Payment is due as specified on the invoice issued after the completion of a service. We will send invoices to the email address associated with your account. All prices are quoted in Australian dollars (AUD) and may be subject to GST where applicable.

6. Client and Patient Information

We do not collect or store information about your clients, patients, or end-users. If you include any such information in your booking request (for example, a patient name in the appointment details or further instructions), we will pass it on to the assigned interpreter as received, solely for the purpose of delivering the service. We do not use, analyse, or retain this information for any other purpose.

7. Confidentiality

All information related to your bookings is treated as confidential. Our interpreters are bound by professional confidentiality obligations. We do not disclose your booking details, service records, or any information you provide to any third party, except as necessary to deliver the service (for example, sharing the appointment address with the assigned interpreter).

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Karieng Language Service shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our services, including but not limited to losses resulting from interpreter unavailability, delays, or the accuracy of interpretation or translation.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

Our Platform and services are provided on an "as is" basis. While we strive to provide high-quality interpreting and translation services, we make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose of any interpretation or translation.

10. Privacy

Your use of our Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Please review it to understand how we collect, use, and protect your information.

11. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email. Your continued use of the Platform after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the voice data collection application ("Application") operated by Karieng Language Service ("we", "us", or "our"). By accessing or using the Application and checking the consent box during sign-up, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Application.

1. About This Project

Karieng Language Service is pioneering the development of artificial intelligence (AI) that can understand, speak, and process the S'gaw Karen language. This is the first project of its kind for our language.

Your participation is a historic step toward enabling AI-powered translation between S'gaw Karen and English, and vice versa. This technology will open doors for Karen speakers who do not speak English, giving them access to educational materials, books, tutorials, health information, and other vital resources that would otherwise remain inaccessible.

You are taking part in a once-in-a-lifetime cause that will benefit the entire S'gaw Karen-speaking community for generations to come.

2. What You Are Contributing

By using this Application, you will record your voice reading Bible verses in S'gaw Karen. These voice recordings, along with the associated text, will be used to build AI models.

3. How Your Recordings Will Be Used

Your voice recordings will be used to train:

Text-to-Speech (TTS) AI models that can read S'gaw Karen text aloud
Speech-to-Text (STT) AI models that can transcribe spoken S'gaw Karen into written text

These models may be used in translation tools, accessibility applications, educational software, and other products that serve the S'gaw Karen-speaking community.

4. Licence Grant

By checking the consent box and using the Application, you grant Karieng Language Service a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, distribute, and create derivative works from your voice recordings for the purposes of AI training, research, development, and deployment of language technology products and services.

5. Waiver of Claims

You understand and agree that:

Your voice recordings may be used in AI models that generate synthetic speech
You will not receive financial compensation for your recordings
You waive any and all claims, demands, or causes of action against Karieng Language Service, its affiliates, successors, and assigns arising from the use of your recordings as described herein
This waiver includes but is not limited to claims related to intellectual property, right of publicity, privacy, and defamation

6. Voluntary Participation

Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may stop recording at any time. However, any recordings you have already submitted prior to stopping will remain subject to the licence granted above and will not be deleted or returned.

7. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Application. By using the Application, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

8. Data Protection

Your recordings are stored securely using industry-standard cloud infrastructure. Your personal information (name, email) is used solely for account management and consent tracking purposes and will not be sold to third parties.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Application is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the availability, reliability, or functionality of the Application. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Application.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Karieng Language Service shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Application or any loss of data, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

11. Privacy

Your use of the Application is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. By using the Application, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Application or by email. Your continued use of the Application after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
